day 1 of GLI ownership: Covered 85 successful trouble free miles. After that, went to friends house. On the way there, clamp comes loose, causing boost leak. Leak is fixed, check engine light still on. car's going to dealer to see what's up tomorrow! didn't even have time to write a review...

I see VW is still up to being VW

^This.
Seriously though, I love VW, but this is kind of silly

Sorry, but ya should have bought a German VW. Mine has been super reliable.

eh. my stepadad's GTI? it's German made, and it's water pump went at 4,100 miles, so there's really no rule to this stuff
![]() 08/16/2014 at 00:02 |

and that's a new one. My housemates older passat wagon has been takin up a garage space for 7 months

the day the warranty's out, it's gone

I had a 2012 GTI. I went through TWO water pumps. 800 miles and 8800 miles.

welp, time to start making sure all the bits work on mine hahah

2001 German made Jetta Wagon. It was a fucking horror show. Fed it money until it got to 80k when it just imploded. Fool me once, VW.....
![]() 08/16/2014 at 00:18 |

Never made it more than 10k miles with out something requiring a warranty repair on our 10 GTI. Getting rid of it as soon as the warranty is up.

The cars that were kept the longest in my family were VWs. They had no issues, funnily enough. My dad's old Fox was his first car ever since moving to Canada, and kept it for about 13 years. And we still have the same Jetta tdi for about 10 years now.

I have a 2012 GTI and it went through coolant leaking issues in the first year. It's been pretty solid since the last one, though.

"One more hour left on the warranty. TIME TO SELL!"

When your water pump is replaced, so is your timing chain. And all 4 fuel injectors. Maybe.

so that's why they took the whole engine apart...
![]() 08/16/2014 at 00:42 |

that's what I hope happens here

no don't get me wrong, we're VW nuts, but they just LOVE acting up

DUDE YES

Those older ones are complete crap, nothing lasts on them.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 01:19 |

No, there isn't, I just figure if you're going to buy a car with a spotty reputation, might as well have it built in a country where they're at least known for their build quality (which is not the same as reliability).
And the water pumps on the 2.0L's are shit: they're plastic.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 01:21 |

WAIT REALLY??? o shit, I hope mine's been replaced
![]() 08/16/2014 at 01:21 |

There's so many new VWs I wouldn't mind owning, but damn when shit like this happens to people, it turns me away. I don't want my car at the dealer constantly, I want to drive it.
Continue owning GM it is.

haha, I'm sure this isn't it's first trip back there! It's an amazing car (got her up to 120 on the freeway today!!!) but it has it's quirks. I'm just waiting for the water pump to go kaput.
And I'm a VW fanboi. i'll let it kill the dealer, because warranty.

Yeah, the horror that is the Mark IV dub. I know logically that they've gotten better, I actually yearn for an MQB SportWagen, but I..... I don't know if I can ever trust again.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 01:30 |

You're ballsy for doing 120 on the highway. I like it.
I feel like there's a slight difference between quirks and being unreliable. You've had the car what, two days or something like that? I understand it's a 2012(?), but damn it's only 2 years old, no reason for it to be throwing check engine lights already.
I hope you don't plan on keeping it after the warranty expires.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 01:36 |

Yup, someone thought a plastic impeller would be a good idea, they never last...
![]() 08/16/2014 at 01:37 |

I really want an MQB, but I don't want one made in Mexico. The MKVII already has a recall for possibly loose suspension bolts. Really??? Really!?!?
![]() 08/16/2014 at 01:47 |

My Mk. IV Jetta has been taking up garage space for three years. I'm honestly not sure what to do with it.

VW can engineer the shit out of their cars, but they can't seem to nail down QC in their parts sourcing or finally assembly. And when shit goes wrong, it can go spectacularly wrong, and be horrifyingly expensive to deal with. Why must they be so appealing?
![]() 08/16/2014 at 06:29 |

Sunsets aren't sunsets. It's VWs in a meet. lol sry, had to.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 08:16 |

I lol'd.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 10:39 |

You know, I don't know. But it's not just VAG that has QC issues, every manufacturer does, but Americans seem to have the worst job (hello GM). I think of a lot of VW's QC issues here in the US and in Mexico have a lot do with worker pay though; your employees are far less likely to give a shit when they're not making money, that's why I like German made products because they make a butt load and they're treated right, so they take pride in their work.
That's just my opinion though, and have unfortunately had this reinforced by my time at VW when I had to perform a fair amount of QC campaigns on the new Passat, made in Murica, while the German made cars had none.

I've had the Dart pegged at 120 multiple times. I need that limiter gone.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 14:38 |
|
That was the point so did I
![]() 08/16/2014 at 14:40 |
|
Why thank you! I would've pushed it more, but I've only had it for 2 days, so...
And yeah, I know, but I'm calling them quirks until the warranty expires
![]() 08/16/2014 at 16:02 |

Its reasons like this that I didn't bat an eye when buying my Mk7. Sprang for the 7 year no deductible warranty and have a feeling it will come in handy at some point during my ownership haha. Love the car to death, but have to be realistic too.

exactly how I feel!

I wish. I'm too poor and the warranty is too good to void
